Delta Gamma

Letter from the President

My name is Erica Barends, and I am the president of the Zeta Gamma chapter of Delta Gamma
at the University of Richmond. I am a senior majoring in accounting with a concentration in
management consulting and a minor in French.
I joined Delta Gamma through formal recruitment during my first year at Richmond and knew
from the beginning that I wanted to become as involved as possible. I have grown so much, both
personally and professionally, through my membership in the chapter. Delta Gamma creates an
environment that helps its members continue to strengthen the best qualities of character, a sense
of social responsibility, and lifelong friendships while encouraging the pursuit of educational and
cultural interests.
Every member, and every chapter, of Delta Gamma is unique. We all have a sense of
individuality but are brought together by our motto “Do Good” and its mission. Our dedication to
service helps unify all Delta Gammas. Delta Gamma was the first women’s fraternity to create
their own philanthropic foundation known as Service for Sight. Our foundation funds five
schools for children with visual impairments in addition to supporting other organizations that
promote sight preservation and conservation. Zeta Gamma’s signature philanthropy event, a
volleyball tournament called Spike for Sight, raises money every year for Service for Sight. The
goal to “Do Good” goes beyond our philanthropic foundation as we strive to make a positive
impact on our communities as individuals.
The Zeta Gamma chapter was established in 1987. Since then, Zeta Gamma has received the
Patricia Peterson Danielson award six time, most recently in 2021. This award is given to Delta
Gamma chapters who exceed the Fraternity Standards.
I found my home here in Delta Gamma and have found many ways to get involved over the past
three years. I have so many wonderful and memorable experiences that I am excited to share!
Please reach out if you have any questions!
